Musings from the road less traveled…

About me…

I am…
—a father of three tremendous children;
—the husband of one wonderful wife Margaret;
—a recent graduate of Regent College in Vancouver, BC (MCS ’04; ThM ’07);
—a born-again evangelical with Pentecostal/charismatic DNA;
—a Christian called by God to teach faith to the people of God;
—a former missionary who lived on the field in Botswana and South Africa;
—a baseball fan, political junkie, Mac-addict and an avid reader; and,
—a fan of old movies.

I have…
—held teaching meetings in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi;
—spoken in hundreds of churches across the United States and Canada;
—lived in nine states and traveled to 32 others;
—a sense of wanderlust but also a need of ritual, familiarity and stability;
—a desire to experience parachuting from an airplane;
—a deep dislike of spiders;
—a hope that God’s church in North America will awake to the realities of her calling & mission; and,
—just passed a German proficiency exam!

I am interested in…
—geology and trains;
—camping and the night sky;
—the desert Southwest and its cultures;
—the life and ministry of the apostle Paul;
—the theological messages embedded in contemporary culture; and,
—the history of America from its founding through to the Civil War.

I want…
—to learn to read Hebrew & German;
—to spend a year in Tuscany;
—to trace the footsteps of Paul in Turkey, Greece and Rome;
—to see Jesus and hear the words, “Well done;”
—to make a lasting contribution; and,
—to be the husband and father my wife & children deserve.

As for now, we’re living in Virginia Beach, VA—about 15 miles from where I was born—waiting on God for our next step. The kids are happily discovering what it means to be an American who actually lives in America, while Margaret and I struggle to readjust to living in North America after 15 years away. I am searching for work as a teacher in either the church or the academy, and am working on some articles for publication. I may wrestle with a variety of issues, but I find that I have much for which to continually praise God.

    I believe the seeker sensitive movement is one of the greatest threats to the true biblical gospel in America. It is a false gospel or at least we must say it is weak and a departure from the historic Christian faith.

    Kevin,

    If one knows the Kool-Ad has been poisoned, is it unwise to (theologically) topple the tables and spill the pots, even if the revelers initially wonder why their party is being disrupted? I suspect the King will not ask us if we kept the peace, but rather demand an explanation for our acquiescence.
